Kacy Catanzaro recalls signing with WWE and expecting a name change that didn’t come at first.
Catanzaro signed with WWE in 2017 off the back of a tryout with the company and being a cast member of American Ninja Warrior. Upon signing with the company, many wrestlers are expected to come up with new ring names but for Kacy, she would keep her name at first, which came as a surprise for Catanzaro.
While speaking to You Know I’m Right in a new interview, Kacy Catanzaro noted that she didn’t know the company wanted to keep her name.
“I didn’t know they wanted to keep my name at first. So I came in being like, ‘Oh my God, I get to be a character. This is so cool.’ Like then they were like, ‘no, we want you to be you,’ and I’m like, ‘okay.’ Then it was kind of tough because it was like, ‘we want you to be you, but like this way.; So then it was like, oh, I’m kind of like portraying myself where I don’t really get to be myself, so then when I would get promos, ‘I’d be like, man, I wouldn’t say this, but it’s not me, but they kind of want me to be me’. So like that was tougher than being like a character and like, who cares what I say? I’m a character. So I don’t know. It was like a weird mind game. But when I got to keep my name, I did end up loving it.”
Elsewhere in the same interview, Kacy spoke about advice given her to put on some weight due to her small frame in pro wrestling. You can read more about that here.
