Marina Shafir discusses her character, likening herself to the G.I. Jane character.

Since making her All Elite Wrestling debut in December of 2021, Shafir has featured as part of the promotions women’s roster and with the debut of The Death Riders in 2024, she became a central point of AEW programming as Jon Moxley’s muscle and protector of his AEW World Title. Recently, Shafir has been feuding with Toni Storm and more, leading to more character development for the former WWE talent.

While speaking on The Close Up with Renee Paquette, Marina Shafir spoke about her character, comparing herself to G.I. Jane.

“I’m not a flashy, flippy toy. I’m a fucking G.I. Jane fucking character. I’m just very different from the rest of the roster and I needed to understand that that was special in itself and just learning how to fortify that and not, you know, just completely go left and start doing shit that I’m not good at. I’m good at fucking people up. I’m just good at fucking people up. I’m good at standing my fucking ground, and I want to draw, like I’ve always wanted to draw something out of the women that was feral and messy and dirty and that’s, I feel like that is my purpose here.”

Elsewhere in the same interview, Marina spoke about why she originally joined The Death Riders. You can read more about that here.
