Matt Rehwoldt Recalls FCW Run, Getting Put In ‘Sink Or Swim’ Situations

Matt Rehwoldt discusses his time in FCW.

Throughout 2012, Rehwoldt spent time with the brand before it transitioned to NXT. This included various matches with names like Dean Ambrose, Seth Rollins, Erick Rowan, Garrett Dylan, Colin Cassady, and Bray Wyatt.

Speaking with Fightful’s Sean Ross Sapp for a new interview, Rehwoldt spoke about his time in FCW and how they’d often give new guys the chance to work with big names.

“I was very new and they every so often would do that with a new guy. They kind of just throw you in a main event with a lot of these guys, like sink or swim kind of thing. So I’m just like politely sitting against the wall as they call the match. You come in, you do like one arm drag, you tag out, and then, of course, took the finish. But it was so cool to just be around there and learning from those guys, watching how they put matches together and just trying to be a sponge. I won’t say vividly, but I strongly remember that time. Wild.”

Rehwoldt went on to express some gratitude for his in-ring career.

“No kidding. You may not have seen all of it, but I look back and my considering who’s on top now all over, I worked with so many people. Maybe again, maybe on matches you haven’t seen, some of these FCW live events, NXT house shows, whatever. But I’ve been very, very fortunate with the number of people I’ve been able to lock horns with, as they say.”

Elsewhere in the interview, Rehwoldt spoke about commentary and how he believes that it is his superpower in the world of wrestling. Fans can check out his full comments by clicking here.
