In January of 1992, The Mountie would win the WWE Intercontinental Championship in a bout with Bret Hart would be suffering from ‘flu’, leading to the upset victory. However, he would only hold the championship for two days before dropping it to Roddy Piper at the 1992 Royal Rumble.
While speaking to Wrestling Then And Now in a new interview, The Mountie spoke about a meeting where he would be told he would hold the WWE Intercontinental Championship for two days.
“Oh, it’s Vince and Pat. They just called me in a room, and they asked me to go in that room, and they told me they had great news and bad news, and they asked me which one I want first. I said, well, give me the good news. They said, well, you’re going to become Intercontinental champion tonight. What? Wow, I can’t believe it. He said, whoa, whoa, whoa, calm down, calm down, calm down. I didn’t give you the bad news yet. In two days, you’re going to drop it. But anyway, I’ll have to say that, yeah, that’s all because Bret (Hart) didn’t want to drop the belt to (Roddy) Piper. So they used me as an intermediate to do it. So, you know, and anyway, I have a lot of stories I can tell about that, but I’m going to keep it all positive.”
Last year, The Mountie would appear at TNA’s Border Brawl event. You can read more about that here.
