Callum Newman Feels United Empire Was ‘Dead In The Water’ After Will Ospreay Left NJPW

Callum Newman speaks candidly about United Empire.

There’s a new interview with Callum Newman on NJPW1972.com. He spoke candidly about the state of the United Empire faction and where he believes the group is headed going into 2026.

Newman commented on the departures that United Empire has suffered and expressed his thought that 2025 is the worst year for the group.

“Sh*t. The worst year ever. In the last couple of years, Aussie Open left, Will (Ospreay) left, Gideon (Grey) hasn’t been seen in God knows how long, Jeff Cobb and TJP left. (Francesco) Akira went to England and hurt himself and its just been me, (Great) O-Khan and Jakob (Austin Young). It’s not even a group, it’s the Three Musketeers, if the musketeers weren’t even on the same page.”

Newman stated that United Empire was ‘dead in the water’ after Will Ospreay wrapped up with New Japan Pro-Wrestling. He stated that he’s realized there’s no need for the group.

“We were dead in the water after that. As soon as that Cage match ended, (Will) Ospreay left and then the rest of us were fighting for scraps. We weren’t on any of the tours; there was no need for us, and you know what I’ve realized?

There’s no need — not really — no need for United Empire now, and that’s been a good thing, since it means I can do whatever the f**k I want, and if the company or the fans don’t like it, well, ‘Sod you.’”

Newman claims that once Ospreay finished up with the promotion, Ospreay gave him a hug, some brief words, and they did not speak after that.

“No,” Newman responded when asked if Will Ospreay said anything to him after his final NJPW match. “The match ended, and he talked on the mic about, ‘Oh, please look after Callum like you did to me. He’s going to make mistakes.’ He gave me a hug and he said, ‘Behave.’ That’s it, and he got in a taxi and left. Didn’t get a phone call, didn’t get a text message even.”

Newman and United Empire are set for 10-man tag team action at NJPW Wrestle Kingdom 20. Joining United Empire’s team for the bout is Andrade El Idolo.
