Jake Paul Reflects On Loss To Anthony Joshua, Shares That He Has Four Titanium Plates In Surgically Repaired Jaw

Jake Paul speaks in longform for the first time since the fight.

Netflix hosted a boxing special on December 19th, and at the top of the billing was Jake Paul versus Anthony Joshua. The two-time Unified Heavyweight Champion put Paul down via knockout in the sixth round. Paul left the bout with his jaw broken in two places.

After undergoing surgery, Jake joined his brother Logan Paul’s IMPAULSIVE podcast. He opened up about the loss to Joshua and stated that it was an overall great experience.

“I won two rounds, and then he won two and then I got dropped. But, yeah, I was doing good. I just think my cardio, just the mental pressure of the big guy and sparring the big people is different than the 10oz gloves. So I was feeling his power a lot more. But it was great experience. I learned a lot in there.

It’s a great experience overall to be in there with someone who’s that good. I learned a lot and I see where I could have done better so I’m a little disappointed but, I also know how good he is. But I had him wobbled at one point. I had him wobbled… He kept his hands up better this fight.”

Jake touched on the punch from Joshua that stopped the fight and his immediate reaction to it. Jake said it was a good shot.

“I was like, ‘Wow, that was nice,'” Jake said about his reaction to the punch from Anthony Joshua that ended their fight. “I was on the ground, I was like, ‘That was a good shot.'” Jake was asked if he was surprised by Joshua’s power, and he replied, “No. To be honest, no, but, I mean, he surprised my jaw.”

Speaking about the aftermath of the surgery, Jake said it feels like a baseball is inside his jaw, and he has four titanium plates inside his jaw.

“It’s like a baseball in there… Four titanium plates.”

The moment when Paul stuck his tongue out at Joshua was brought up. Jake said he was just trying to have some fun and then expressed his gratitude to the sport of boxing.

“I was just trying to have fun, you know? That’s what it’s all about at the end of the day and I did have fun. I love this sport and I love this job. It doesn’t even feel like a job. It’s just f*cking awesome. I just had a blast in there. Win, lose or draw, this sport has done so much for me and I just am happy and grateful and just all the life memories that are created through these fight weeks and everything that we’ve done is just super awesome and I’m gonna be able to look back at my life and just be really happy one day.”

During the interview, Jake stated that he will fight again and threw the idea out there of fighting former UFC Heavyweight Champion Francis Ngannou. In 2024, Anthony Joshua and Ngannou met in a boxing fight, and Joshua defeated the former UFC Champion via knockout in the second round.
