Jinder Mahal Says Betting Odds Were His First Clue He Was Winning The WWE Championship

Jinder Mahal says he learned about his WWE Championship win through online betting sites.

Back in 2017, Mahal got an upset win over Randy Orton for the WWE Title at Backlash. It was an unexpected title change, and even Mahal didn’t know about it officially until a few hours before the show.

Speaking on Inside the Ropes, Jinder Mahal says Road Dogg informed him of the title win on the day of Backlash. But he first got a hint a day before, when he suddenly became a favorite on betting sites.

“We’re in Chicago, All State Arena. I’m with Randy, kind of, by the locker rooms. Road Dogg comes. ‘Hey Randy, go see Vince. Vince wants to talk to you.’ Road Dogg grabs me and that’s when he tells me, ‘Hey, you’re going over tonight.’ That’s how I found out. But again, anything can change in WWE. You’re not winning it until you win it, essentially. But I got the hint maybe the day before. (Jinder says to the audience) Here in UK, as you guys may know, maybe some of you partake in online betting on pro wrestling. I was going in as an underdog a few days before and then the night before I was the massive favorite. The odds switched and I saw on Twitter people were tweeting me, ‘Jinder Mahal is now a favorite.’ I don’t know, maybe some smart money came in. I’m not saying anything. Allegedly, maybe possibly. So I saw that and that seemed interesting to me. But yes, then the next day, Road Dogg told me.”

Elsewhere in the same interview, Mahal recalled the time WWE released him in 2014. Fans can read his comments here.
