John Cena: They Wanted To Make A Moment At WWE Elimination Chamber

John Cena went against everything he had stood for at WWE Elimination Chamber when he kicked Cody Rhodes in the dick and aligned with The Rock.

For the first time in two decades, Cena solidified himself as a heel, no longer standing for Hustle, Loyalty, and Respect.

Speaking to Cody Rhodes on What Do You Want To Talk About? Cena reflected on the moment.

“This is how the business works. I know that this is forever the critical discussion outside of the confines of the people who say, ‘I want you to do this,’ that own the thing. They wanted to make Elimination Chamber a moment. I get it. The business is about making moments. There is nothing wrong with that. You don’t always need a nine-month trajectory. You can understand, ‘We have a ton of eyes on tonight. Let’s do something impactful, and then you as artists can run through the maze and figure it out.’ In February, they wanted to make a moment and they asked me to be part of it. ‘Holy hell, what a challenge to me creatively.’ The loss of that good side at all costs, to get that, was easy to explain. When we all talked about it, the one detail, ‘I’ll do whatever the fuck y’all want, just stay on the face for longer than you think.’ That’s the one thing I said. ‘This is going to feel weird. Just stay,'” said Cena.

Cena remained heel until August, when he flipped back to babyface after Rhodes helped set him back on the right path.

Elsewhere during the interview, Cena reflected on his final match against Gunther. Fans can find his comments here.
