Matt Cardona reflects on capturing the United States Championship at TLC 2011.
At the TLC pay-per-view in 2011, Cardona (then known as Zack Ryder) would challenge Dolph Ziggler for the United States Championship, with Matt walking away with the victory and the gold. While it is one of the top moments of his career, Cardona would change one detail about the victory.
While speaking to MuscleManMalcolm in a recent interview, Matt Cardona reflected on his United States Title win back in 2011, stating his belief that he probably should have won the title the month before at Survivor Series.
“Man, that night, one of, if not the top moments of my career and life. Started that year as a nobody, like already in the ring, getting killed on RAW. Started the YouTube show, end the year as the United States champion, winning on a pay-per-view, teaming with John Cena. It was crazy, and that night was, that was the night, I mean, the month before- probably should have happened at Survivor Series at MSG. But it happened in Baltimore. It worked out the way the way it did, and my dad was in the crowd. I’m standing on the announce table with the woo-woo-woo, all the people. What a career highlight for me, and the fact that I did it with Nic/ Dolph and all these years later, we’re still intertwined. We’re still the two guys who came back It means a lot.”
In a recent social media video, Trish Stratus struggled to remember Cardona’s name. You can read more about that here.
