Nic Nemeth Recalls WWE Higher-Up Telling Him He Should ‘Stop Bumping So Great On Finishes’ Or He’d Be Doing That For Rest Of His Career

A story from Nic Nemeth from his first run with WWE.
Madison Square Garden in New York City was the home of the November 17th edition of Monday Night Raw. The show featured the continuation of John Cena’s ‘Last Time is Now’ tournament.
One of the tournament matches was advertised as Solo Sikoa versus a mystery opponent, and that opponent was revealed to be Nic Nemeth a.k.a. Dolph Ziggler.
After his comeback to WWE, Nemeth began making the media rounds, and one of his stops was Off The Ropes with Jonathan Coachman. He recounted a story from his first go-around at WWE when a higher-up told him he should stop bumping so great on finishes because he’ll end up doing that for the rest of his career. Nemeth said he tried to lean in the direction of that advice, but it did not work for him.
“A long time ago, someone in Talent Relations and behind the scenes — very high up — was like, ‘You have to stop bumping so great on finishes. Not throughout the match… Because that’s what you’ll be doing for the rest of your life is taking those finishes.’ ‘That’s a really good call,’ and I tried it once, and I hesitated… I was so embarrassed. It was like I fell on ice, and I said, okay, I can’t. I have to go all out. So if I’m gonna give something or have a moment, I’m gonna make it count and if someone’s gonna give me something, it’s gonna be in their highlight reel when they’re sending it around for who took the finish or who did this or if I hit mine, all those pieces. I have to, and luckily for me, that makes good TV and everyone will talk about you afterwards.”
Nemeth is working with TNA Wrestling. He’s been with the promotion since January 2024. He is a former TNA World Tag Team and TNA World Champion.
