Tatum Paxley: Me Having The NXT Women’s Title Shows You Can Overcome Your Thoughts, Our Thoughts Are Our Worst Enemy
Tatum Paxley captured the NXT Women’s Championship at NXT Halloween Havoc, defeating Jacy Jayne. It marked the first title victory for Paxley during her time in WWE, which began on-screen in 2022.
Appearing on the Nikki & Brie Show with Nikki Bell & Brie Bella, Tatum was asked what kind of champion she hopes to be.
“It’s so cool what this title can represent. It’s almost as if it is something different depending on who has it at that time. Sometimes, the title can mean a fighting champion, and everybody is very confident because they have it, so it means confidence. Sometimes, it’s maybe in the hands of a person that might have different motives and maybe they cheated to get it, so it represents something different. I feel like something that I am really enjoying with me specifically, me being on top of my game, I’m still heavily flawed. Sometimes I’m so high, so low, I’m unpredictable. Me having this title shows that you can overcome your own thoughts. Our thoughts are our own worst enemy. Just a couple of weeks ago on NXT, I cost my friends and me a match, and I freaked out. I can’t control it and get so out of control that I’m champion. We’re used to champions being 100% on top of their game at all times, but I’m not. That’s who I am, and that is what is so interesting about me being champion, is that at the end of the day, I’m still going to be able to overcome those thoughts and flaws that I have, but they’re always going to be there because I’m human. I just want to relate to people. That is relatable. We don’t win all the time, but we’re going to try our best to come out on top. Me holding this title, that’s what that represents, and I what I want to keep representing. I’m never going to be 100% or perfect, but I’m going to try my best to be the best I can be and getting to hold this title, whether for short time or a long time, that’s what that represents,” she said.
Tatum is set to defend her NXT Women’s Title against Jacy Jayne at NXT Gold Rush.
Elsewhere during the interview, Tatum praised Jayne’s finishing move, The Rolling Encore. You can read her comments here.
