Francis Ngannou shuts down the rumors.
There has been a ton of speculation surrounding Ngannou in recent days, with some fans believing that he was a top name to replace Gervonta Davis in his fight against Jake Paul on November 14.
Speaking with TMZ Sports, Francis Ngannou confirmed that he won’t be replacing Davis, saying that the fight made no sense to him.
“No. There’s no such thing happening. How can they go from Gervonta Davis to Francis Ngannou? I mean, Gervonta Davis is a fantastic boxer but, he’s a one shot knockout artist but come on, the weight different and everything, it makes no sense. Gervonta Davis, you count and say, okay the size different, he can level up. But at this point, for me, it makes no sense.”
After confirming that Paul’s team reached out to him to gauge interest, Ngannou noted that he didn’t want to be disrespected like that.
“He said, ‘Yeah, Jake Paul, he’s fighting and I’m like, ‘No bro, come on. Don’t disrespect me like that. They even come out after and say, ‘What if the numbers are good?’ He sends out some number and I’m like, ‘It’s not about the number. If it was about the number, we could have started up.’ I’m just not interested, it makes no sense for me. It’s not what I’m looking at right now.”
Ngannou last competed in October 2024, defeating Renan Ferreira in Saudi Arabia.
