Kevin Von Erich doesn’t believe that he could have wrestled without fans like pro wrestlers of today did during COVID-19.
Kevin comes from the legendary Von Erich wrestling family that was showcased in the recent Hollywood adaptation of their story, ‘The Iron Claw’. The Von Erich family’s legacy continues to grow today, as Kevin’s sons, Marshall and Ross Von Erich are active pro wrestlers as a tag team and have been for several years now.
In a new interview with SA Live, Kevin Von Erich was asked about how he feels about seeing his sons in the ring, with Kevin also noting that he could not have wrestled without fans during COVID-19 like his sons did.
“When I see my sons get in that ring, I get tears in my eyes, and the camera’s right at me. You know, I don’t want to cry on TV, but I mean, I’m telling you, when I see them guys get in there making little cues to each other like we do, like, drop it, duck, give me, all the little quick words, warrior prayer. My son slammed this 400-pounder the other night. I mean, I don’t know how they wrestled during COVID with no people in the arena because without the people… I could not have done that. I could have never practiced the stuff I did. But with all that adrenaline from the crowd, I’d leap off those top ropes and come down on a chair, whatever, because you’re there, you know? That’s the way it is. But I don’t know how they did it in COVID, but my sons are wrestling now and when I see it, I can’t help but get choked up a little bit.”
Elsewhere in the same interview, Kevin spoke about how AEW has done what he and his brothers had sought out to do, which is changing wrestling. You can read more about that here.
