Kurt Angle Praises The Rock For Elevating Him To A Main Event Level In WWE
Kurt Angle praises The Rock for his selflessness during their time together in the WWE Attitude Era.
Kurt Angle was one of the rising stars quickly promoted to main event status during the WWE Attitude Era. The Rock is the person Kurt Angle defeated for his first WWE Championship at WWE No Mercy in 2000. Just two years earlier, The Rock was winning his first WWE Championship and experienced what it was like to be elevated at a breakneck pace during the WWE’s prosperous time in the 1990s.
Now, Kurt Angle is praising The Rock for always being so giving when they worked together in his early career. He says that while he did his best not to have an ego as he entered WWE from a legitimate background, The Rock always made sure he felt included. Angle shared his memories of Rock during a recent interview with Sports Illustrated.
“Rock and I had such a blast. The cool thing about him is that he was really giving. I was an Olympic gold medalist; it wasn’t like I was a nobody coming into WWE. But when you go in there with an ego, you’re gonna get in trouble very quickly. So I never had that ego, and I always felt that these stars that I was gonna wrestle, like The Rock and Stone Cold. I put them at a higher level above me, but Dwayne always brought me up to that level and said, ‘Hey, you’re with us. You’re up here with us. You’re not down there with the rest. You’re up here with us.’
“So he was always very generous with the way he wrestled. He was my first World Championship match, where I won the World Championship. He didn’t have to say yes, but he did. So I’m just very grateful. I think the rock has done so much for my career.”
