The Rock Suffered A Concussion While Filming ‘The Smashing Machine’

One of the final scenes of “The Smashing Machine” is Mark Kerr, played by Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, facing Kazuyuki Fujita in the PRIDE Grand Prix 2000 Finals.

The Rock previously explained that director Benny Safdie wanted to keep things realistic and not cut away during the scene, meaning the punches had to look real.

Speaking to Jimmy Fallon on the Tonight Show, The Rock revealed that he suffered a concussion in the scene.

“You’ll see in the movie, he’s rocking me over and over again. It was wild. After the fight, you see me and I look like I’m loopy, that’s because I had a concussion. It’s the thing you have to do. If you’re going to make a MMA movie, you have to go all the way. That’s what we did with this,” he said.

Elsewhere during the interview, Rock reflected on the 15-minute standing ovation the film received at Venice Film Festival. You can find his full comments here.
