ESPN SVP Says Over The Next Few Months The Majority Of Fans Subscibed To ESPN Through MVPD Will Have Access To ESPN Unlimited

WWE kicked off its partnership with ESPN on Saturday with WWE Wrestlepalooza.

The premium live event was available on ESPN Unlimited, though not all Multichannel Video Programming Distributor (MVPD) subscribers were able to access the platform. Only those subscribed to Spectrum, DirecTV, FuboTV, Hulu Live TV, and Verizon Fios also had access to ESPN Unlimited.

Speaking on a conference call (via Sports Business Journal), ESPN SVP/DTC John Lasker said that the company, in the coming months, plans to have “pretty much ubiquitous accessibility” of the upper level plan to more MVPD subscribers.

“We’re not 100% there today, but over the next couple of months, the vast majority of folks that are subscribed to ESPN through an MVPD will have access to our ESPN Unlimited plan and then therefore have access to all the PLEs to come,” he said.

As part of the WWE-ESPN rollout, ESPN had hours-long programming leading up to Wrestlepalooza, including an on-site SportsCenter.
