Adam Copeland Says The Spear Being His Finisher Was An Accident, Wanted To Make It His Own

Adam Copeland (Cope, Edge in WWE) his become synonymous with the spear, using it in a variety of ways to put away many opponents over the years.

The spear is now commonplace in wrestling, with some using it as a finisher and others using it as a transition.

Speaking on Rock 95 Barrie, Copeland was asked for his thoughts on the spear being used more often.

After saying he didn’t have a problem with it, Copeland said, “Goldberg did it first and it struck a chord with people. With me, it was more of an accidental thing. Just needed something to get to the next thing. I did it, and it got a reaction. As a performer, you go, ‘Wait, that got a reaction. Alright. Keep that in the repertoire.’ It just became more of a thing. Then, I thought, what can I do different than Goldberg or Rhino? I can do them from different places. I don’t think you’re going to see Goldberg do it off a ladder. That’s how I looked at it. I can take it, make it mine by doing it off ridiculous places.”

Cope is set to team with Christian Cage against FTR (Dax Harwood & Cash Wheeler) at AEW All Out.

Elsewhere during the interview, Cope commented on the possibility of wrestling John Cena one last time. Fans can find his full comments here.
