Drew McIntyre discusses putting Cody through an announce table with a Claymore.

During the August 8th edition of WWE Friday Night SmackDown, McIntyre and Rhodes would come to blows, with Drew taking Rhodes out of action with a Claymore kick through the side of the announce desk. However, Cody has returned in time to defend his WWE Championship at Wrestlepalooza later today.

While speaking to Cathy Kelley in a new interview ahead of WWE Wrestlepalooza, Drew was asked about the incident, noting that for him, it was simply self defense.

“What happened specifically with Cody and I is very simple, and as you say, I explained it already, but for a lot of our fans, I have to explain myself at nauseam with the facts. So let’s go again since we’re on this big platform right now. The match was over. He attacked me, put my face in the post, cleared an announce table, not to fashion me a fine cuisine, to put me through it, and I retaliated, and that specific example was self-defense, so everybody stop asking me about it.”

On Friday, it was confirmed what placement the title bout between Drew and Cody would be on the Wrestlepalooza card. You can read more about that here.
