Eddie Kingston Says Homicide Steered Him Away From Retirement: He’d Tell Me, ‘Go Out Your Way’

Eddie Kingston details his time away from the world of wrestling.

At AEW All Out, Eddie Kingston will make his return to the ring in a big way, facing Big Bill in a singles bout. This will be Kingston’s first match since suffering multiple leg injuries at the hands of Gabe Kidd in May 2024.

Throughout his absence, Kingston has periodically updated fans on his recovery and mental state, even taking a few minutes here and there to give his take on the state of the wrestling industry.

Speaking with Shakiel Mahjouri of CBS Sports for a new interview, Kingston revealed that he spent a portion of his injury time alone, as his partner was tending to personal matters. As a result, ‘The Mad King’ went down a few dark roads, even contemplating retirement at one point.

“I went from beating myself up, not knowing if I’d get back in the ring, and trying to be satisfied. I told myself, ‘Well, I reached this goal and I reached that goal.’ I was trying to convince myself that it’s OK to call it.”

Mahjouri then asked Kingston if he found any closure during those times.

“I couldn’t. Nothing. Death. Honestly. I tried to find everything. I would lie to myself.”

Kingston went on to reflect on the recent retirement of Homicide, saying that he told him to go out of wrestling the way that he wants to.

“He didn’t get to go out his way. So he’d tell me, ‘Go out your way. I know this is not the way you want to go out.’ I want to go out on my shield. I want to go out swinging to the end. People can say whatever they want about Eddie Kingston, but one thing they can’t say is that I wasn’t defiant to the end. That’s what kept me going.”

The messages from fans kept Kingston going as well, even if he struggles to wrap his head around why people care so much.

“And as corny as this sounds, but I need to say it, I’d read messages from fans. I would sit there and wonder why these people even care. I’m just a kid from Yonkers, New York. That’s it. I got to live out my nine-year-old dream and be a pro wrestler.”
