‘Our Lady Peace’ Lead Vocalist: “We Just Re-Recorded A Song Called ‘Whatever,’ Which Was A Chris — It Was A WWE Song”

Raine Maida comments on the song being redone.

The band ‘Our Lady Peace’ was formed in Canada, and they’ve sold millions of albums worldwide and won multiple awards.

The band is known in the pro wrestling space for creating the song ‘Whatever,’ which was used by Chris Benoit in WWE. In February 2025, Our Lady Peace performed ‘Whatever’ for the first time in 15 years. They stopped playing the song after the double-murder suicide in which Benoit took the lives of his wife, Nancy, and their son Daniel before taking his own.

Raine Maida, lead vocalist for Our Lady Peace, was interviewed on the Paltrocast With Darren Paltrowitz and commented on the band re-recording ‘Whatever.’

“So we just re-recorded a song called ‘Whatever,’ which was a Chris — you know, it was a WWE song. We did that in Toronto with Nick Raskulinecz…”

In the YouTube description of the re-recorded song, Our Lady Peace left the following:

It’s been 23 years since the tragic events surrounding WWE wrestler Chris Benoit and the theme song we wrote for him.

We feel that enough time has passed that it was necessary to to re-record “Whatever” to help shine a light on suicide prevention and mental health awareness.

We’re donating all monies earned from streaming Whatever to suicide prevention initiatives across North America.
