Konosuke Takeshita To Challenge For IWGP World Heavyweight Title At NJPW King Of Pro Wrestling

Konosuke Takeshita is cashing in his G1 Climax victory and guaranteed shot at the IWGP World Heavyweight Championship at NJPW King of Pro Wrestling on October 13th.
He will face the winner of Zack Sabre Jr vs. Ren Narita, which goes down at NJPW Destruction in Kobe on September 28th.
This marks the second straight year where the G1 winner is using their title match early as opposed to waiting until the main event of Wrestle Kingdom, which was the tradition for years.
Konosuke Takeshita’s triumphant G1 Climax victory has set the stage for his biggest opportunity yet. In a grueling G1 Climax 35 final against EVIL, Takeshita overcame relentless interference from House of Torture members to secure the tournament crown.
Following his win, Takeshita made his intentions clear: he wants to walk into the Tokyo Dome as IWGP World Heavyweight Champion. To do so, he will challenge the reigning champion at King of Pro Wrestling on October 13. That opponent will be decided at Destruction, where Zack Sabre Jr. defends the title against Ren Narita.
Whether it’s ZSJ or Narita, Takeshita’s path to Wrestle Kingdom now runs straight through Ryogoku, with championship gold in sight.
Takeshita is signed to NJPW, AEW, and DDT Pro Wrestling
