Tony Khan Says Contract Executions Will Have A Week’s Notice Moving Forward

Much was made of the casino gauntlet winners at AEW All In receiving a guaranteed title match. In 2024, gauntlet winner Christian Cage was able to execute his contract at a moment’s notice, interrupting a bout between Jon Moxley and Cope, turning it into a three-way.
In 2025, gauntlet winners Athena and MJF executed their contracts weeks out from AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door, though MJF went back on his word after threatening to burn Mark Briscoe and getting Hangman Page to remove the contract execution stipulation.
Speaking at the AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door press conference, Tony Khan clarified what will happen moving forward with contract executions.
“I think it’s important to promote championship matches. I don’t want to have a big ticket championship match that we are unable to advertise. I don’t necessarily want to utilize a stipulation here that is being utilized other places. I’m not trying to duplicate what other people are doing. I really believe we are our own promotion. Going forward, from now on, I think the right thing to do is that all contract executions should be on at least a week’s notice so that we can properly promote the matches and give the fans notice and have the integrity of a championship match. I think it’s the best for us and our media partners,” stated Khan.
MJF still has his guaranteed title shot despite losing to Hangman at Forbidden Door.
