Prior to CM Punk’s walkout in 2014 from WWE after the Royal Rumble, one piece of the puzzle related to it was Punk’s tension with Triple H at the time, something both men have discussed since Punk’s return to WWE in late 2023. Now, the two have gone deeper on why they had tension at the time.
While speaking on episode one of WWE Unreal, both CM Punk and Triple H discussed their dynamic prior to Punk’s walkout in 2014, with Punk explaining why the pair initially clashed.
“Initially, Hunter and I clashed because I was a main talent roster full-time the same time he was a main talent roster full-time, so there’s that competition, and a lot of that generation was looking down at kids like me, saying ‘Oh, you’re here to take my spot. Well, I’m not gonna let you, or at least it’s gonna be a fight.’ Halfway through my career here, he becomes office and now I’m like ‘fuck you. You can’t tell me anything.'”
Triple H would then share his side of their dynamic.
“I always felt like my job was, I’m in between office and the talent. But Punk would never let me assist, and he would then sometimes attack me. There would be moments where we’d have a meeting, and he’d come at me and I’d leave there thinking, like, ‘this little motherfucker…’ Punk didn’t trust me, and I didn’t trust Punk.”
Punk would then explain to fans unaware about why he left the company in 2014, stating that he had to take himself off the hamster wheel before he was worked to death. The pair also briefly discussed several times over the years that there had been discussions about Punk returning to the company.
Elsewhere in episode one of WWE Unreal, Triple H had big words for Rhea Ripley. You can read more about that here.
