Mark Coleman Recounts Aftermath Of Ringside Incident With Chris Jericho At WWE Event: “I Wasn’t Allowed Backstage Anymore… I Didn’t Hear From ‘Em After That”
UFC Hall of Famer Mark Coleman did not hear from WWE again after a ringside incident with Chris Jericho.
Coleman says WWE ‘blew it’ because he could’ve had great matches with Kurt Angle and others.
UFC Hall of Famer and the first UFC Heavyweight Champion, Mark Coleman, was a guest on THE HANNIBAL TV.
From 2000-2005, Coleman competed in matches for Antonio Inoki, New Japan Pro-Wrestling, All Japan, ZERO1, and HUSTLE. In the interview, he was asked why he did not continue his wrestling career on a more consistent level.
Coleman went on to tell the story of when he was invited to a WWE event. He began to drink and was being rowdy at ringside. While Chris Jericho was near the barricade, Coleman began to shout at him and called Jericho a ‘pus*y.’
He added that Jericho flipped him off and claims Jericho went backstage and complained. Coleman said he was not allowed backstage after that and did not hear from WWE again.
“As far as the WWE, I became champion of the UFC and they had just hired Dan Severn and Tank Abbott, Ken Shamrock. Shamrock did pretty good. Tank was the biggest flop ever and then, Severn was very average. So they weren’t so high on the UFC guys anymore but, they did bring me to one of the shows, and I showed up rather drunk. Very, very drunk. I got backstage. I messed with Chris Jericho. He got thrown out of the ring and I was ringside and I was just telling him to get his ass up you pus*y. I was yelling like a fan. I said, ‘Get up Jericho, you pus*y,’ this and that. Well, he looked up at me, made eye contact with me and he flips me off and he said something to me and he went backstage and he complained to whoever was back there and all of a sudden, I wasn’t allowed backstage anymore so, I didn’t hear from ‘em after that… They blew it because I could have had some epic, epic matches with ole Kurt Angle and a few other guys. We would have freaking killed it.”
The last time Coleman wrestled was in 2021 at AAA/American Icon Jacksonmania 3 in Poway, California.
