HOOK Reveals He’s Recovering From Concussion, Says He Should Be Back With AEW ‘Soon’
An update on HOOK and insight into his on-screen character.
HOOK says he should be back with the company soon.
The most recent occasion that HOOK appeared on AEW programming was when he showed up at AEW Double or Nothing to assist Samoa Joe, Katsuyori Shibata, Powerhouse Hobbs, Kenny Omega and Swerve Strickland in Anarchy in the Arena.
While guest appearing on Wrestling Observer Live, he was asked if he could be expected back in AEW soon and revealed that he’s recovering from a concussion.
“Yeah, yeah (I’ll be back in AEW soon). I’m recovering from a concussion for those who don’t know but yeah, I’ve been out for a while and I should be back soon, for sure.”
Elsewhere in the interview, HOOK was asked about his on-screen character, and thinks it’s fair to say it’s just an extension of who he really is.
“Yeah, I think so. I think the character’s just an extension or a piece of the person I really am, so, yeah, I’d say that’s accurate.”
Speaking about his interest in wrestling growing up, HOOK shared that his father, Taz, told him to become anything but a pro wrestler.
He always had a deep interest in it because of his father’s career. Once HOOK got older, he wanted to use his athleticism and creativity to create an income for himself.
“You know, it’s pretty funny. When I was a kid, my dad told me to be anything but a pro wrestler when I grew up. So, it wasn’t necessarily the plan from younger at all. However, I was an only child and super close to my father forever so I always took a deep interest in wrestling just because it was what my father did and I would come up with my own ideas of what I thought I would do if I was a wrestler and stuff but… once I got older and I wanted to use my athleticism and creativity to make an income for myself and I started to take more serious — the idea of — aye, maybe I could really do something with professional wrestling, and I developed a more hardcore vision and started training…”
The last time HOOK wrestled was on the April 9th edition of Dynamite. He teamed with Samoa Joe to take on Claudio Castagnoli and Wheeler Yuta. It was in that match that HOOK vomited in the ring.
